It’s been almost a year since I’ve updated my coverage of filler text generators; in the intervening months, there have been some notable resources added to my toolset that I wanted to share with you:

Marvel Ipsum

Comic book illustration of the Marvel character Iron Man

Marvel Ipsum uses the excellent resources of the Marvel API to generate filler text drawn from your favorite superhero, including Wolverine, Deadpool, and Iron Man. The service also generates filler images and tables (covered previously in my article on web development table tools).

Choose Your Ipsum

Showcases 72 different filler text generators from Ancient Aliens to lines from the pen of Joss Whedon, wrapped directly in the site using <iframe> elements.

DeLorean Ipsum

Side view of the Dolorean from the movie Back to the Future

One site featured on Choose Your Ipsum is a new favorite of mine. DeLorean Ipsum is hosted on GitHub as a JQuery plugin, and also has the advantage of pulling any lines from the Back To The Future movies wrapped in almost any kind of HTML tag you wish.

JonyIpsum

Finally, if you’re a Mac developer, you might want to use the collected, randomized words of designer Jony Ive for your filler text.

Of course, all of these tools should be used only in emergencies, or for playing around with ; as a rule, site design and development should start with real content as often as possible.
